Using an Internet-based energy and water management information system supplied by Qonnectis and its channel partner Scottish Water, First Group plc Environmental Management Department identified major cost saving opportunities. The result of this initiative received a commendation from First Group plc management and nomination for VIBES Award (Vision in Business Environment Scotland).
As part of First Group’s energy management initiative, Scottish Water’s Smart Metering group commissioned Qonnectis to implement its remote water monitoring system throughout Scotland. Qonnectis iStaQ meter loggers were fitted to the meters feeding workshops and bus depot sites around Scotland.
First Group management are now from their desktop browser able to view 24/7 15-minute interval utility consumption. During a continuous period, the sites using drive-through bus washing machines to clean in some cases over 300 buses daily were monitored. By observation of water consumption of the bus washers, new methods to reduce water consumption by altering the manner in which the machines are utilised will gain significant annual savings in clean water and sewerage. The system has also enabled the firm to observe water use work patterns in the workshops to improve productivity.
Qonnectis CEO, Michael Tapia commented: “We have seen that transport companies such as First Group plc are benefiting from implementing Qonnectis Internet based energy and water management information systems. Major companies are continuing to become more aware of the opportunities to make considerable savings by measuring water and energy usage on a continuous basis in utility-intensive processes. These savings are directly delivered to their bottom line”
